Is Website Content King?

Ever heard the phrase ‘Website Content Is King?

Quite frankly the answer is, in my opinion…… YES! I think this view is, by and large, echoed across my industry. It’s hugely essential for Search Engine Optimisation.

The written copy on your website is absolutely paramount to gaining rankings on SERP’s. Of course, that isn’t suggesting that writing reams and reams of pages will make you page 1 of Google overnight……because it won’t – no matter how exciting to readers it may be. Other factors also contribute (which I’ll chat about in other posts no doubt J) but without relevant and rich content – which naturally should be enticing and exciting for readers – your website is unlikely to be found anywhere near top pages of Google.

Spiders (or robots) trawl the World Wide Web looking for text to ‘pounce’ upon and ‘index’ into one of Google’s data centres – see it as an ‘acknowledgement’ they know your site exists. The more relevant ‘text’ there is the more they will be drawn to your site amongst the millions of other sites available globally. Once they have done this, they can be ‘encouraged’ to visit your site time and time again by consistently updating existing content and adding fresh relevant content.

I often hear ‘I haven’t got anything to write about’ or ‘I can’t think of anything to write about’……there is always something new to write about on your site – regardless of the industry, and whether it’s a service offering or ecommerce site. As your service or product evolves so should your website content! You already own/manage a website so you should know your ‘offering’ inside out and back the front better than anyone – so what’s so hard about providing some copy about it?

Once you have a decent amount of content per page (we recommend around 350 words minimum) you ideally need to target your pages with appropriate keywords (SEO activity). I would recommend considering using a professional (such as me J),  who use various techniques and has access to many tools to undertake comprehensive keyword research and analysis to ascertain which keywords are best to use on your pages. The way these keywords are integrated needs to be carefully managed for the search engines.

Search Engine Marketing should not stop here…….our strategies are all encompassing with the needs of the client at the forefront. Other areas of activity are necessary too in assisting in gaining good page ranking on Google – off and on line. Sites should be regularly monitored for their progress, competition and issues.

Kyle…..this post is not about the internet evolving and changing – its about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and clients making sure they are ahead of the game in terms of competitors, and ensuring their site is ranked well on Google (amongst other Search Engines of course), which ultimately increases revenue! Its about Search Engine Marketing (SEM) – the ‘stuff’ that earns clients’ money!

It’s as basic as this – in my opinion ………
Build a site – sit back – do nothing – no content – no marketing activity = sticking a shop/service in outer Mongolia!!!! Who will find you???????? NO-ONE! WHY BOTHER?

…I understand that you are talking about SEO, by using the term adapting I mean the customer improving the content on their website and using the help of professionals such like yourself to get their website ranked well.
